The EU could “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it calls “unwarranted” travel bans imposed by the United States on five European individuals working on combating online hate and disinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Condemn US Move as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe such as the French president accused the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures who have been central to efforts to introduce legislation regulating American tech companies.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led organised efforts to coerce US companies to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated the US secretary of state in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate these egregious acts of censorship beyond its borders.”
